Phycocyanin
What is phycocyanin?
Phycocyanin, the noblest element of spirulina, has many effects.
Phycocyanin is a blue pigment , associated with a carrier protein, naturally present in spirulina. In order to benefit from all its effects, the pigment must be dissociated from its protein to be absorbed at the intestinal level.
Unfortunately, for dry spirulina, this dissociation requires a significant amount of time (approximately 36 hours in vivo ). Since the absorption zone of phycocyanin is reached much more quickly, the phycocyanin in dry spirulina is absorbed and therefore used very little. Subsequently, the pigment is dissociated by the digestive process and assimilated like any other compound, without allowing its particular activity. Taking dry spirulina for its phycocyanin intake is therefore illusory.
Conversely, consuming a phycocyanin concentrate allows the pigment to be supplied in free form (not bound to its carrier protein), which can be directly assimilated by the body. Thus, thanks to this type of phycocyanin extract, the assimilation of the pigment is ideal, which allows it to optimally produce numerous effects.
The benefits of phycocyanin
1. Immunity
In fact, vitamin B12 in phycocyanin contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system. It can be consumed by adults and children.
2. Oxygen transport
Vitamin B12 in phycocyanin contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells, which are the oxygen carriers in our body.
Thus, phycocyanin is particularly recommended for athletes.
